Give yourself the space to process and reflect. Poetry therapy is a complementary strategy in individual and group settings, to encourage meaningful processing. Using existing literature or personal writing, this approach encourages authentic emotional expression. It relies upon intentionality; helping you redefine (and rewrite) your story by considering new perspectives.

The process of writing is cathartic and empowers the expression of memories and emotions that  may be difficult to share. Sometimes, we not only need a partner in our healing journey, we need creative tools to help with communication and reflection.

Strategies of poetry therapy include:

  • Creative writing
  • Letters
  • Poems
  • Stories
  • Song lyrics
  • Imagery
  • Metaphor
  • Narrative
  • Journaling
  • Ritual
